Amazon unveiled a $20 million commitment on Monday aimed at water conservation in the Colorado River Basin, a region contending with chronic drought and mounting demand. The e-commerce company is establishing the Colorado River Basin Collaborative (CRBC) and aligning with the Water Resilience Coalition and The Climate Pledge, according to an announcement reported by the Good News Network.
The initiative is designed to channel funds toward irrigation efficiency upgrades and leak repairs along the river system, which supplies water to millions of residents across the American Southwest. The Colorado River Basin has faced a historic drought that has strained reservoirs and prompted widespread calls for conservation.
By joining the Water Resilience Coalition and The Climate Pledge, Amazon is integrating its efforts with existing organizations focused on water stewardship and corporate climate action. The company indicated that the collaboration aims to support projects that reduce water loss and improve agricultural water use.
The announcement, reported by the Good News Network, highlights a growing trend of corporate investment in water conservation as communities and businesses confront the effects of prolonged drought. The $20 million commitment represents one of the larger private-sector contributions to address water scarcity in the basin.
