American Prairie, a conservation nonprofit, has announced that its bison herd has grown to more than 1,000 animals, marking the first time the population has reached four digits since the organization was founded more than 20 years ago. The milestone represents a significant achievement for the largest private land conservation project in the United States.
The herd, which roams relatively freely across the Great Plains of North America, has been expanding as part of American Prairie's efforts to restore the region's natural ecosystem. The organization has been working for over two decades to create a vast protected landscape for wildlife.
This achievement underscores the potential of private conservation initiatives to make a tangible impact on biodiversity and habitat restoration. As autumn settles over the plains, the growing bison population serves as a testament to the long-term commitment of American Prairie and its supporters.
