An Atlantic City man will face sentencing next month after admitting to a violent robbery that left a local taxi driver shaken but unharmed. Davidson Dominique, 25, pleaded guilty last week to second-degree robbery and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
The incident unfolded on April 28, 2025, when an Atlantic City police officer was flagged down by a taxi driver near Route 30 and New Jersey Avenue. The cabbie reported he had just been robbed and shot at by a passenger he'd picked up from the Ocean Casino.
According to prosecutors, the driver had transported Dominique to a requested location. When they arrived, Dominique pointed a handgun at the back of the driver's head and demanded money. The frightened driver complied, handing over $100 and his cellphone.
What happened next turned a robbery into something far more dangerous. When Dominique exited the cab and attempted to flee, the taxi driver tried to follow him. In response, Dominique fired a shot into the windshield of the taxi, striking the passenger side. Fortunately, the driver escaped injury.
The case represents another troubling incident affecting our community's taxi drivers, who provide essential transportation services and often work alone in vulnerable situations. The quick response by local law enforcement and the subsequent prosecution demonstrate our justice system's commitment to protecting those who serve our community.
Dominique is scheduled to be sentenced on August 18. The prosecution is recommending five years in New Jersey State Prison for his crimes.
