ATLANTIC CITY — A 21-year-old Atlantic City man has been sentenced to seven years in state prison after admitting he shot another man in both legs during a 2024 shooting.
Charles Summers was sentenced Aug. 25 by Superior Court Judge Donna M. Taylor on second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
The charges stemmed from a shooting shortly before 10 p.m. on July 4, 2024, in a parking lot near 1000 Sewell Ave. in Atlantic City.
Atlantic City police responding to the scene found a man suffering from gunshot wounds to both legs, prosecutors said.
Investigators recovered two spent 9mm shell casings and found what authorities described as a large blood trail at the scene.
The Atlantic City Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit investigated the shooting and identified Summers as the gunman, according to prosecutors.
Summers was arrested without incident on July 23, 2024.
On May 11, Summers pleaded guilty to second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
As part of his plea, Summers admitted shooting the victim and causing serious bodily injury, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
Summers has remained in the Atlantic County Justice Facility since his arrest.
