MAYS LANDING — An Atlantic City man accused of repeatedly headbutting a police officer while being taken into custody has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and a weapons charge.
Nashid Seymore, 31, pleaded guilty Sept. 3 before Superior Court Judge Daniel Kurkowski to fourth-degree aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
The plea agreement calls for a recommended sentence of one year in New Jersey State Prison.
The charges stem from two separate incidents in Atlantic City earlier this year.
Police: Seymore Brandished Knife During Altercation
The first occurred Jan. 5, when Atlantic City police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Indiana and Atlantic avenues following a report of a man threatening people with a knife, according to prosecutors.
Police located Seymore at the scene with a knife in his possession.
Seymore admitted to brandishing the knife during a verbal altercation, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Officer Injured During May Arrest
The second incident occurred May 13 near Tennessee and Atlantic avenues.
Prosecutors said Seymore became involved in a physical altercation with another man.
As Atlantic City police officers took Seymore into custody, he headbutted an officer several times, causing bodily injury, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Seymore subsequently pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer in connection with that encounter.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 13.
