Nearly 150 golfers participated in the sold-out Thomas L. Glenn Jr. Memorial event, with proceeds supporting the AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute
GALLOWAY — A nearly four-decade-old South Jersey golf tradition raised $263,000 this week to support cancer care in the region.
The AtlantiCare Foundation's 38th annual Thomas L. Glenn Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament brought nearly 150 golfers to Galloway National Golf Club on Wednesday for a sold-out event benefiting the AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute.
The scramble-format tournament combined golf with fundraising, prizes and an evening reception while continuing an event established in memory of Thomas L. Glenn Jr.
“The Thomas L. Glenn Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament is a powerful reminder of how philanthropy and community can shape healthier futures,” said Matt Lang, chief development officer for the AtlantiCare Foundation.
“We are thankful to the Glenn family for entrusting AtlantiCare with this legacy, one that reflects Thomas's values of generosity, fellowship and service,” Lang said. “Their vision, combined with the commitment of our sponsors, golfers and volunteers ensures that this event does far more than fill a leaderboard — it strengthens the foundation of care for our entire region.”
Money to support cancer services
AtlantiCare said proceeds from this year's tournament will go toward its Cancer Care Institute and efforts to enhance oncology services available to South Jersey patients.
The fundraising comes as AtlantiCare continues implementing its broader Vision 2030 strategy, a multiyear effort to expand and change how the health system delivers care throughout the region.
The health system has been making substantial investments in cancer treatment in particular. AtlantiCare's Cancer Care Institute provides medical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion services and other cancer-related care in South Jersey.
For the Foundation, Wednesday's tournament was designed to help support that work through private philanthropy.
A 38-year tradition
The Thomas L. Glenn Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament has become one of the AtlantiCare Foundation's longest-running annual fundraising events.
The Glenn family has remained involved with the tournament, which AtlantiCare says was created to carry forward Glenn's legacy of generosity, fellowship and service.
This year's event drew a sold-out field of nearly 150 golfers, along with sponsors, volunteers and supporters.
Glenn Insurance served as presenting sponsor, with P. Agnes Inc. as tournament sponsor. Numerous South Jersey businesses, labor organizations, healthcare companies and contractors also sponsored portions of the event.
Rather than measuring Wednesday's success solely by what happened on the golf course, AtlantiCare officials pointed to what the money raised could mean for patients seeking cancer treatment close to home.
“It strengthens the foundation of care for our entire region,” Lang said.
For a tournament now in its 38th year, that means the legacy bearing Thomas L. Glenn Jr.'s name will continue well beyond the final round of golf.
