Attorneys representing three friends of the late Nolan Wells released a statement Friday condemning a wave of bomb and death threats directed at their clients, according to TMZ.com. The statement arrives amid a growing dispute over claims that Snapchat messages were deleted from the teenager's phone.
In the Friday press release, attorneys Edward Andrew Paltzik and Tyler Cox said their clients Jax Pitalo, Warren Hudson and Morgan Seymour "refuse to be intimidated by today's litany of bomb and death threats," TMZ.com reported. The legal team characterized the threats as coming from people "outside the community."
The attorneys tied the threats to statements made by Ben Crump, the family lawyer for Nolan Wells, who claimed that messages on the teen's phone had been deleted between the last time he used it and when the device was handed over to his family. Paltzik and Cox accused Crump of generating "runaway speculation and wild sensationalism," according to TMZ.com.
Jackson County District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath also pushed back on Crump's assertions, stating that "the user action discussed by [Crump's team] is from other Snapchat users, not someone physically accessing Nolan Wells' phone," as reported by TMZ.com.
Paltzik and Cox, who have previously indicated they intend to sue Crump for defamation, closed their statement with a pointed warning: "As we have said before, consequences are coming. We are coming. And Hell is coming with us," they wrote, per TMZ.com.
