Biggie's Son Challenges Grandmother's Will Amendment in Court

The son of legendary rapper The Notorious B.I.G. has taken legal action to contest last-minute changes to his grandmother's estate plan, alleging the alterations occurred under questionable circumstances during her final weeks of life.

Christopher Wallace Jr. filed court documents challenging an amendment to the will of his grandmother, Voletta Wallace, who died in February 2025. According to the filing, the amendment was signed merely 15 days before her death and dramatically altered the distribution of her estate.

The original will, executed in 2020, had designated Christopher and his sister as primary beneficiaries of Voletta Wallace's personal property. The document detailed the distribution of her fur collection, jewelry, music awards given to The Notorious B.I.G., a Mercedes-Benz SUV, a property in Jamaica, and various other assets. A few items were allocated to her brother under that version.

The contested amendment reportedly eliminated the grandchildren as beneficiaries and installed Wayne Barrow, a former manager of The Notorious B.I.G., as executor of the estate. Barrow now controls decision-making authority over Voletta Wallace's assets.

In his legal filing, Christopher Wallace Jr. raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the amendment's execution. He stated that his grandmother experienced declining health during her final days, was taking numerous medications, and was frequently confined to bed. The filing asserts that the signatures on the amendment appear facially inconsistent with Voletta Wallace's authentic signature and should be examined by an expert.

Christopher Wallace Jr. is requesting that the court declare the amendment invalid and immediately remove Wayne Barrow as executor of the estate.

The legal challenge emerges against the backdrop of ongoing disputes over The Notorious B.I.G.'s estate management. When the rapper was killed in 1997, Voletta Wallace acquired a 50 percent interest in the company managing his estate. She co-managed that entity with her son's widow, Faith Evans, until Voletta's death.

Under the 2020 will, Voletta Wallace's interest in the company was designated to go to her foundation rather than to individual heirs.

Wayne Barrow recently prevailed in a separate legal dispute with Faith Evans when a judge ruled that Evans must provide Barrow access to Voletta Wallace's portion of profits from The Notorious B.I.G. trust. The current challenge to the will amendment appears designed to undermine Barrow's authority to control the estate.

The case highlights the complex financial and legal arrangements that can persist decades after a prominent figure's death, particularly when multiple family members and business associates maintain competing interests in estate assets.
