Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell has weighed in on the chaotic brawl between Arman Tsarukyan and Dillon Danis at a RAF 14 press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, telling TMZ Sports that the incident demands consequences. Liddell, known as "The Iceman," said the sport's athletes need to exercise better self-control before someone suffers serious harm.
"Someone's gonna get hurt. The problem is there are a lot of capable fighters there. The wrong thing happens to the wrong person, someone's gonna get hurt," Liddell told TMZ Sports. "It's not gonna be good."
The incident unfolded Thursday at the RAF 14 press event in Sin City, where the two fighters exchanged punches at the podium. Liddell believes the Nevada Athletic Commission will almost certainly be the body to hand down any discipline, given the event's location.
The former champion argued that without repercussions, these types of altercations will continue. "There's gonna be some sort of punishment. Someone's gotta get punished for it somehow. They gotta control it. Or they have to have better control. Better security. However they get it under control," Liddell told TMZ Sports.
Liddell also emphasized that the behavior has become too normalized. "These guys gotta watch it. It's not cool. It seems like it's an okay thing now. It's not okay," he told TMZ Sports.
Ultimately, Liddell said the responsibility falls on the fighters themselves. "Guys, control your egos. Control yourself. A real man can control his anger," he told TMZ Sports.
The Tsarukyan-Danis melee is far from an isolated incident in mixed martial arts. Over the years, several high-profile fighters have engaged in physical altercations on stage with media and fans often just feet away. Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have brawled at a press event, while Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz twice got into it on stage, including during a UFC 202 press event that ended with water bottles being thrown.
For now, the MMA community awaits word from the Nevada Athletic Commission on whether any penalties will be levied against Tsarukyan and Danis. Liddell's comments underscore a growing concern that press conference skirmishes are becoming an accepted part of the sport's promotional landscape, a trend he firmly rejects.
