Cold Case: Police Seek Identity of Man Found Dead in 1982

More than four decades after a man's body was discovered in Brigantine, investigators are renewing their appeal for information that could finally put a name to the unidentified victim.

State police announced Thursday they're seeking public assistance in a cold case dating back to May 14, 1982, when human remains were located in Atlantic County. The discovery was made in a wetland environment adjacent to Golden Hammock Thorofare within Brigantine City limits.

Forensic analysis suggests the victim was a white male who stood approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed around 165 pounds. Investigators believe he was between 35 and 45 years old at the time of death, which likely occurred sometime during 1981 or 1982.

To aid in identification efforts, authorities have released a composite sketch showing what the individual may have looked like when his remains were recovered. The image represents investigators' best reconstruction based on available forensic evidence from the scene.
