Egg Harbor Township Man Pleads Guilty to Sexually Assaulting Child Under 13

MAYS LANDING — A 50-year-old Egg Harbor Township man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a child who was under the age of 13 and to a second charge involving the recording of prohibited sexual acts, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Rufino Carreon-Peralta pleaded guilty Tuesday to first-degree aggravated sexual assault and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Under the plea agreement, prosecutors will recommend that Carreon-Peralta serve 18 years in New Jersey State Prison without parole on the aggravated sexual assault charge.

He also faces a 10-year prison sentence on the child endangerment charge, subject to New Jersey’s No Early Release Act. The sentences would run concurrently, meaning at the same time.

Carreon-Peralta is currently being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Investigation Began With Juvenile’s Report

The case dates to May 11, 2023, when Egg Harbor Township police responded after a juvenile reported being sexually abused by Carreon-Peralta, whom authorities identified as the victim’s stepfather.

According to prosecutors, the victim reported that Carreon-Peralta had engaged her in sexual acts while she was younger than 13.

The victim also reported that Carreon-Peralta permitted her to participate in the filming of prohibited sexual acts.

Authorities did not disclose the victim’s age or provide additional details about the abuse.

Megan’s Law Registration Required

In addition to the prison sentence, Carreon-Peralta will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law following his release.

He will also be subject to Parole Supervision for Life.

Sentencing is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 10 before Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor.

The Prosecutor’s Office said the sentencing date remains subject to an evaluation at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center in Avenel.
