Emergency personnel descended on a Greenville, South Carolina residence Sunday following the death of actress Hayden Panettiere, with fire trucks, ambulances, and coroner's office vehicles photographed at the scene.
A friend discovered Panettiere's body inside an apartment and placed a 911 call reporting the actress was unresponsive and in cardiac arrest, according to law enforcement sources who spoke to TMZ.com. The call prompted an immediate emergency response to the Greenville residence.
Photographs obtained by TMZ.com show a fire truck parked alongside multiple ambulances outside the building where Panettiere died. Additional images captured a Greenville County coroner's truck stationed in front of the same residence.
Paramedics arriving at the scene attempted to revive Panettiere using advanced cardiac life support, which employs specialized medications, breathing tubes, and heart rhythm monitoring equipment. First responders also performed chest compressions in their resuscitation efforts following a suspected overdose.
Despite the emergency medical intervention, Panettiere was pronounced dead at 2:32 PM on Sunday.
Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the individual who placed the emergency call. Panettiere's on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson has been mentioned in connection with the case, though it remains unclear whether he made the 911 report.
Police investigators found no initial signs of foul play at the scene. The Greenville County coroner is scheduled to conduct an autopsy on Monday, August 18, 2026, to establish the official cause and manner of death.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Panettiere's death continues as local authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the emergency response.
