FBI Director Kash Patel is engaged to country singer Alexis Wilkins, the couple announced on Sunday, October 4. Patel, 46, shared the news on X, reposting a black-and-white photo that Wilkins, 27, had posted of the two of them smiling, with her engagement ring visible.
Wilkins captioned the image, "Went and got the law involved 💍❤️," according to Celebrity News: Latest Celeb News & Pictures - Us Weekly. The couple has been linked since January 2023.
The engagement arrives after a year in which Wilkins confronted public criticism over her scheduled performance at President Donald Trump's Great American State Fair, an event marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. Some observers questioned whether her relationship with Patel, who serves in Trump's administration, played a role in her selection for the lineup.
Wilkins pushed back on that suggestion in June, writing on X that she has built a career in country music and in commentary and strategy over many years. She stated that people do not get to dismiss those accomplishments for the sake of clicks or headlines, and she emphasized that she was invited to perform the anthem on her own merits, as she has at many other venues throughout her career.
She also confirmed that she was "not accepting payment for this great honor," she told Celebrity News: Latest Celeb News & Pictures - Us Weekly. Addressing the funding of the event, she said, "The Freedom250 entire celebration is on a fundraising arm; neither UFC nor any National Mall celebrations are 'taxpayer funded,'" she told Celebrity News: Latest Celeb News & Pictures - Us Weekly. She added, "I'm no longer accepting false narratives and total sham accusations that diminish my hard work and earned accomplishments, so please expect this kind of response to continue," she told Celebrity News: Latest Celeb News & Pictures - Us Weekly.
Several artists withdrew from the Great American State Fair, pointing to Trump's involvement with the concert series. Those who pulled out included Martina McBride, Young MC, C+C Music Factory, Bret Michaels, The Commodores, Morris Day & The Time, and Milli Vanilli's Fab Morvan.
Michaels explained his decision in June, saying that what had been presented as a celebration of the country had become more divisive than what he had agreed to join. He also cited concerns about the safety of his fans, band, crew, and family, including threats he described as unfounded and unforgivable.
Morvan told CNN in June that he was not attending, stating that he aims to bring people together through music and is not involved in politics. He recounted being assured by his team, who had been told by another team, that there was no political entanglement or alignment and that it was simply a free show for the public. He described his motivation as uniting people, allowing them to revisit memories and celebrate life, noting that some attendees had been present when his music first came out. He framed it as a chance to say, "Hey, I'm still here, you're still here. Let's have a good time together."
