Three siblings of George Floyd have formally demanded that their brother Philonise Floyd produce a complete accounting of the George Floyd Memorial GoFundMe campaign, which collected approximately $19 million following Floyd's death, according to TMZ.
A Houston-based lawyer representing sisters Zsazsa and LaTonya Floyd and brother Rodney Floyd sent the request to Philonise Floyd on August 11, according to the letter obtained by TMZ. The siblings assert that they are George Floyd's heirs and therefore entitled to a share of the funds, and they claim they have not received any portion of the money.
The demand seeks a broad set of financial documents tied to the campaign, including GoFundMe reports, statements, and transaction histories, as well as tax filings and other records. The letter set a deadline of 20 days from Philonise Floyd's receipt of the correspondence to turn over the materials, with the family's attorney stating that she hoped the dispute could be resolved amicably.
According to TMZ, the family members say they have asked repeatedly for records and for an explanation of how the funds were managed and distributed, but have not received the documentation. They also told TMZ that they reached out to attorney Ben Crump seeking answers and received no response.
"We want to see the records, understand how decisions were made, and make sure the family's questions are answered. We're speaking up because transparency matters," Rodney Floyd told TMZ.
The fundraiser's early performance was extraordinary. As TMZ previously reported, the campaign had already drawn close to $13 million from nearly 500,000 donations within just over a week of its launch, a GoFundMe record at that time.
Philonise Floyd has said the funds were intended to address funeral and burial costs, counseling, travel related to court proceedings, and other family needs. He also indicated that a share would be directed to George Floyd's estate for the benefit of his children and their education.
