Alonzo Lunsford, a survivor of the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, has told TMZ that he intends to watch the livestreamed execution of Nidal Hasan, the man convicted of carrying out the attack. However, Lunsford emphasized that the event should not be treated as a festive occasion.
Lunsford, who was shot seven times during the attack, spoke with TMZ about his plans. He said he wants to look his shooter in the eye during the execution, hoping to find closure. He also stressed that not everyone should be allowed to view the stream, specifically stating that children and teenagers should not watch.
In addition, Lunsford expressed doubt that the Defense Department will easily find a platform for the livestream. He told TMZ that outlets will be reluctant to broadcast an execution in real time due to potential backlash. He also said it is important to remember that people died in the attack.
Hasan was convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 others in the shooting spree at Fort Hood in 2009. The War Department has scheduled his execution by firing squad for December 3, and plans to livestream it.
Vice President JD Vance has also weighed in, telling TMZ that he is skeptical the Pentagon will proceed with the livestream. He added that if it does happen, he will not watch.
