Geno Auriemma, the University of Connecticut women's basketball coach who has built one of the most dominant programs in college sports history, is offering an intimate look at his remarkable journey in a new documentary premiering this week.
The 12-time National Champion winning coach sat down with Babcock to discuss the forthcoming film, revealing that the process of revisiting four decades at UCONN stirred a complex mix of feelings.
"Some of it brought back some great memories. Some of it was a little bit painful to look at," Auriemma told Babcock, speaking to TMZ.com. "You shake your head and you're like, 'What are you thinking,' you know?"
When pressed about what moments proved difficult to watch, the coach did not hold back. "Some of the dumbass things that I said," he told TMZ.com.
Despite those uncomfortable moments of self-reflection, Auriemma emphasized that the documentary ultimately served as a meaningful reminder of the collaborative effort behind UCONN's unprecedented success. The film goes beyond simply celebrating championships and dynasty-building, according to the coach.
"All in all, I think what it brought back for me was the incredible journey and how many people it took to make all this work," Auriemma told TMZ.com.
The documentary, titled "The Dynasty: UCONN Huskies," will premiere on Thursday, August 21, 2026, on Apple TV. The project promises to offer viewers an inside perspective on one of college basketball's most successful programs and the coach who has led it through an era of unparalleled achievement.
Auriemma's tenure at the University of Connecticut has produced not only 12 national championships but has also helped elevate women's basketball to new heights of visibility and respect within the sports world. The documentary arrives at a time when interest in women's basketball continues to grow, with the WNBA experiencing increased viewership and the college game attracting larger audiences.
