Authorities in south Georgia are searching for whoever opened fire at a block party in Vienna early Sunday morning, a burst of gunfire that killed two young men and wounded 35 other people, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The GBI announced the casualties in a press release and confirmed that a manhunt is underway for the shooter or shooters. No arrests had been reported as of Monday morning.
Deputies from the Dooly County Sheriff's Office were on patrol in the neighborhood when gunfire broke out, and they rushed toward the sound, the GBI stated. What they found was a scene of mass casualties.
Two young men lay dead in the street from gunshot wounds, according to police. They were identified as Ja'Quavion Aderious Jackson, 21, and Macaleb Malik Jackson, 23. Authorities have not said whether the two men were related.
The remaining 35 victims were transported to area hospitals, where medical staff treated them for gunshot injuries. Their conditions ranged from stable to critical, police said.
The GBI has not released a possible motive, and officials have declined to say how many shooters they are seeking. The investigation remains active.
Vienna is a small city in Dooly County, roughly 50 miles south of Macon. The violence there adds to a growing list of mass shootings in Georgia and across the country in 2026.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Georgia Bureau of Investigation or the Dooly County Sheriff's Office.
