Gerresheimer Glass Relocating 139 Vineland Jobs to Other Plants

South Jersey will see significant workforce changes as Gerresheimer Glass Inc. prepares to relocate 139 jobs from its Vineland manufacturing facility to operations in other states and abroad.

The pharmaceutical glass container manufacturer filed notice with the New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development detailing plans to transfer positions from its Forest Grove Road plant to facilities in Morganton, North Carolina, and Queretaro, Mexico. The relocations are scheduled to occur in two phases during 2027, with reductions planned for February and November.

Workers currently producing glass vials and cartridges at the Vineland site will have the opportunity to apply for available positions at the North Carolina plant, according to the filing. The company has not clarified whether any manufacturing jobs will remain at the local facility following the transfers.

The Vineland plant holds special significance within Gerresheimer's global network. The company's website describes the Forest Grove Road location as a tubular glass facility and identifies it as "our center of excellence." The factory specializes in developing and producing primary pharmaceutical packaging products including vials and cartridges.

The job relocations stem from a major expansion at the Morganton facility that received substantial federal backing. Gerresheimer announced the North Carolina project in 2022, securing federal funds covering up to $66 million of the $94 million expansion. The government assistance aimed to strengthen the nation's capacity to respond to public health emergencies while creating new production and warehouse positions in North Carolina.

The federal investment has enabled Gerresheimer to consolidate operations at the expanded Morganton plant, according to the notice filed with state labor officials. The company has also grown its manufacturing presence in Mexico in recent years, with ongoing expansion at its Queretaro facility.

Gerresheimer operates as a global enterprise with headquarters in Germany. The company maintains 38 production sites and employs more than 13,000 workers across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Its products serve the pharmaceutical industry by providing specialized glass containers essential for medication storage and delivery.

Company representatives were not immediately available to provide additional details about the workforce transition or the future of the Vineland facility.
