An unusual pregame scene unfolded at MetLife Stadium on Sunday evening when New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo faced difficulty entering the venue ahead of the team's season-opening matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
According to TMZ Sports, which obtained photographic evidence of the incident, Skattebo arrived at an entry gate around 5:50 PM ET on Sunday, approximately two and a half hours before the scheduled 8:20 PM ET kickoff for Sunday Night Football. The running back was photographed leaning out of a customized pickup truck while attempting to gain access to the stadium.
"Let me in! I'm the running back!" Skattebo reportedly shouted, according to TMZ Sports, as he worked to resolve the entry issue with stadium personnel.
The delay meant Skattebo arrived later than several teammates, including quarterback Jaxson Dart and Malik Nabers, both of whom had already entered the facility by the time the running back cleared security. When Skattebo did make it inside, he was wearing a throwback jersey from Corner Canyon High School that belonged to Dart.
The pregame complication adds an unexpected chapter to what has already been a challenging journey for Skattebo. TMZ Sports previously reported that the running back sustained a severe ankle injury during the previous season, requiring extensive rehabilitation work before returning to the field.
After months of recovery and preparation for the new season, being stopped at the stadium gate represented an obstacle the player likely did not anticipate on game day. The incident was resolved in time for Skattebo to participate in the Giants' nationally televised season opener at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
