The Grand Ole Opry will transform its Saturday evening performance into a comprehensive tribute honoring Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday after a brief battle with cancer, according to TMZ.com.
The weekend show will celebrate the country music icon's life, legacy and extensive contributions to the genre, with Carly Pearce confirmed among the artists taking the stage, the Opry told TMZ.com.
Pearce's participation carries particular significance given her personal connection to Parton. The performer launched her career at Dollywood, and in 2021, Parton personally surprised Pearce with an invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry as an official member.
Tributes began immediately following news of Parton's passing. During Tuesday night's Opry performance, member Rhonda Vincent opened the show by telling the audience, "This is for Dolly," TMZ.com reported, before performing the classic "Coat of Many Colors." Vincent returned later in the evening to perform "9 to 5" and "Jolene," while Morgan Myles honored Parton with "I Will Always Love You."
The venue's famous marquee will display Parton's name through Saturday evening, ensuring her presence remains visible to visitors and passersby outside the historic Nashville institution.
Parton had been a Grand Ole Opry member for more than 50 years, cementing her status as one of country music's most enduring figures.
The legendary performer died Tuesday surrounded by loved ones at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville following a brief battle with cancer, TMZ.com reported.
