Halle Berry has satisfied a court-ordered requirement in her ongoing custody dispute with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, completing a parenting education program mandated by the Los Angeles Superior Court, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.com.
Berry signed a certificate on Tuesday confirming her completion of the court's "Our Children First" online mediation orientation and parent education program, the documents show. According to the court's website, the program — formally titled "Our Children First" — must be finished by parents before they can proceed with custody or visitation disputes.
The filing represents the latest development in a contentious legal battle between Berry and Martinez over their 13-year-old son, Maceo.
As TMZ.com previously reported, Martinez alleged that Berry placed Maceo in a headlock and choked him during a virtual reality game. Berry has denied the claim, describing the incident as playful roughhousing and maintaining that she never wrapped her hands around the boy's neck.
Berry has characterized herself as a domestic violence victim and advocate rather than a perpetrator, stating that she would never harm their child. She has also accused Martinez of neglecting to set proper boundaries for Maceo and of opposing professional treatment for the boy's behavioral and neurodivergent challenges.
A judge earlier granted Martinez's request for a temporary restraining order, while preserving Berry's final decision-making authority regarding Maceo's mental health care and education.
The former couple is due back in court on October 16.
