Heidi Montag Opens Up About Motherhood Challenges During Music Revival

Heidi Montag is experiencing a significant professional resurgence while managing the complexities of raising two children alongside her husband, Spencer Pratt. The reality television personality and recording artist headlined the Neon Skies Festival on Saturday, July 18, performing alongside Kesha and Slayyyter in what marked her first hour-long concert performance.

The 39-year-old performer acknowledged the substantial effort required to balance her musical ambitions with family responsibilities. Speaking about the milestone performance, Montag described the months of preparation that went into the show while ensuring her sons, Gunner and Ryker, remained her primary focus.

"This is a huge moment in my career," Montag told Us Weekly one day before the festival appearance. She explained that she began rehearsing shortly after receiving the performance offer in late February or March, deliberately spreading out the preparation to accommodate family needs.

"I've been rehearsing since I got the call, which I think was in late February or March, and I just didn't want it to be so much pressure at the end," Montag told Us Weekly. "I wanted to slowly knock it out and work on it. You know, my children [Gunner and Ryker] are my priority, so I wanted to give space for them getting sick or me getting sick or who knows anything happening."

The former star of The Hills detailed her methodical approach to preparation, which involved consistent rehearsals over several months with increased intensity in recent weeks. This strategic planning allowed her to maintain focus on her children while building toward the performance.

The festival appearance follows the June 26 release of Masterpiece, Montag's third studio album. The project represents a continuation of renewed interest in her music career, which has gained momentum in recent months.

"I'm feeling really confident and comfortable, and I'm just trying to take the pressure and the stress away because it's fun, and the fact that this is a job and living my dream is so exciting," Montag told Us Weekly. "So I just want to be able to stay on that stage and fully be present in that moment and to be able to have fun and enjoy doing it because that's what this is all about at the end of the day."

Montag reflected on the broader lessons learned through her career evolution, emphasizing that professional success does not follow a single predetermined path. Her perspective centers on the belief that individuals can reinvent themselves at any stage of life.

"I think that you don't just have one shot in life. There's so much pressure to take the right course, and this is it. It's like that's not true," she told Us Weekly. "Life is always shifting and shaping and changing, and it's never too late to be who you want to be, and a lot of things take time and practice."

The performer's current schedule has required increased independence in managing her career responsibilities. Spencer Pratt, 42, recently competed in the Los Angeles Mayoral race, finishing third in the June primary election behind incumbent mayor Karen Bass and city councilwoman Nithya Raman.

Following the election results, Montag expressed support for her husband on social media platform X. "I couldn't love my husband more and be more proud of him," she wrote. "What an inspiration, what a hero."

Montag told Us Weekly that Pratt's commitments meant "this has kind of been the first time where I've done everything fully on my own." She noted that geographic distance from extended family members limits available support systems.

"I mean, usually, like creatively, I'm doing it all on my own, anyways. All my other performances and the lineup and the songs and the rehearsals, and that's something I have to do independently, anyways," Montag told Us Weekly. "So thankfully, I have you know a few incredible angel nannies that have made my life so much easier."
