EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Authorities are investigating after human skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area near Tilton and Delilah roads in Egg Harbor Township.
Police said officers responded to the area around dawn on Thursday, July 30, after a local resident discovered a portion of a human skeleton.
A search of the surrounding area was conducted with assistance from a New Jersey State Parks Police cadaver canine unit, which helped investigators locate the remainder of the skeletal remains nearby.
The Atlantic County Medical Examiner's Office recovered the remains and is conducting a forensic examination.
Authorities said the identity of the person and the manner of death have not yet been determined.
The discovery is being jointly investigated by the Egg Harbor Township Police Department and Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Police said there is no indication that the discovery poses a threat to the public.
Additional information, including how long the remains may have been at the location, was not immediately released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
