A social media influencer has died at age 30 following a catastrophic bicycle accident during her honeymoon in northern Italy, according to international media reports.
Laura Viktoria Härtig was traveling through the Dolomite mountain range on June 23 when her bicycle collided head-on with a motorcycle driven by Peter Runggaldier, a 57-year-old former Olympic alpine skier. The crash occurred on an uphill section of road at Passo Sella, according to local police statements.
The tragedy unfolded just two days after Härtig married her husband Tilman in an outdoor ceremony set against an alpine mountain backdrop. She had shared wedding photos to her Instagram account on June 21, writing in the caption: "Soulmate for life."
The force of the collision was severe enough to split Härtig's bicycle in half and eject her onto the roadway, according to local media accounts. Emergency responders resuscitated her at the scene before transporting her by helicopter to a hospital in Bolzano. Her family subsequently arranged for her transfer to Bavaria, where she died on Sunday, July 12.
Local police documented the incident in a public Facebook post on the day of the crash, stating: "Road accident. This morning the force attended a road accident at Passo Sella, kilometer 32+400. A motorcycle and a bicycle were involved. Traffic was stuck for about an hour. Intervened in support of the Canazei VVF, the White Cross of Canazei, Trentino emergency and the helicopter services."
Runggaldier sustained serious fractures and abdominal injuries in the collision. The Trento Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the crash, which remains ongoing.
On Tuesday, Runggaldier addressed the incident publicly for the first time through an Instagram post, requesting privacy as he recovers. "Dear friends, in regard to the serious road accident in which I was involved, I ask you to respect my moment of pain and my need for confidentiality," he wrote. "My thoughts go out to all the people involved and their families. I trust in your sensitivity and please understand that at this time I will not give any interviews or statements."
Runggaldier represented Italy in alpine skiing at two Winter Olympics, competing in Lillehammer, Norway, in 1994 and Nagano, Japan, in 1998. He claimed World Cup victories in 1995 in Whistler, Canada, and in 1996 in Hakuba, Japan.
Härtig had built a social media presence under the username "AllTimeLaura," identifying herself as an outdoor enthusiast with passions for skiing, hiking, climbing, cycling, and mountain activities. Her Instagram biography stated simply: "I just love to be outside."
The wedding footage she posted on June 21 captured the couple exchanging vows during an outdoor ceremony in northern Italy, with dramatic alpine peaks forming the backdrop to what would become one of her final social media posts.
