Jay Leno Seeks New Hampshire Court Recognition for Conservatorship

Former Tonight Show host Jay Leno has petitioned a New Hampshire court to recognize the conservatorship he holds over his wife Mavis in California, a legal step necessary to sell real estate the couple owns in the Granite State.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ.com and filed earlier this month, the comedian is seeking to sell certain real estate located in New Hampshire that he and Mavis hold as community property. The filing represents a procedural requirement when a conservatorship established in one state needs legal recognition in another jurisdiction.

The property at the center of the petition appears to be a two-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch home constructed in 1995. Leno listed the residence for sale in June at a price just under $400,000.

Jay Leno has served as Mavis' primary caretaker as she battles dementia. The conservatorship arrangement, established in California, grants him legal authority to manage her affairs and make decisions on her behalf regarding their shared assets.

The New Hampshire court has not yet issued a ruling on the petition. Such interstate recognition of conservatorships typically allows the conservator to conduct necessary financial transactions, including real estate sales, in states beyond where the original conservatorship was granted.

The legal filing underscores the complex administrative requirements families face when managing assets across state lines while navigating health challenges and conservatorship arrangements.
