Kelly Osbourne Reflects on Grief One Year After Father's Death

Kelly Osbourne has shared a raw and emotional reflection on grief as she approaches the first anniversary of her father's death. The 41-year-old posted a lengthy meditation on loss to Instagram on Tuesday, describing how bereavement has fundamentally altered her sense of self.

Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary Black Sabbath frontman, died on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76 following a public battle with Parkinson's disease. His daughter's post arrives just one day before the one-year mark of his passing.

In her Instagram message captioned "What I've come to know about grief in the last year," Kelly Osbourne described mourning as a process that extends beyond missing the deceased. She wrote that grief quietly removes joy from laughter and hope from the future, leaving mourners as strangers to themselves.

"I don't just mourn the father I lost. I mourn the soul I was before death taught my heart its own name," Kelly Osbourne wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, July 21. "There is a grief that steals more than the person you love. It quietly takes the light from your laughter, the innocence from your hope and the stranger you become is someone you'll spend a lifetime trying to recognize."

The television personality, who is the middle child of Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon Osbourne, described grief as an experience that cannot be understood until one has lived through it personally. She characterized it as carrying love that has nowhere to go, an endless ache that exists in unbearable silence.

Kelly Osbourne expressed longing for the person she was before her father's death, before every memory became simultaneously a blessing and a source of pain. She described profound loss as something that divides life into two distinct identities: the person one was before and the person left behind.

"Some losses don't simply break you. They divide your life into two people," Kelly Osbourne noted in her post. "The one you were before and the one left behind."

She concluded her reflection by suggesting that the cruelest aspect of grief is not that death takes loved ones, but that it leaves the living as ghosts of who they once were. The post was tagged with "#LoveIsEternal #OzzyForever" as a tribute to her late father.

When Ozzy Osbourne died in July 2025, the Osbourne family released a statement describing their sadness and requesting privacy. The Grammy winner was surrounded by family at the time of his death.

Ozzy Osbourne is survived by his wife, Sharon, 73, and their children Aimee, 42, Jack, 40, and Kelly, along with several grandchildren. He was also father to Elliot, Louis and Jessica from his first marriage to Thelma Riley.

The family has announced that Wednesday, July 22, will be commemorated as the first "Ozzy Day" celebration in the rock legend's hometown of Birmingham. The city-wide event will feature free live music, public art, special performances, and fan tributes at locations throughout Birmingham, honoring Ozzy Osbourne's legacy and connection to the city where he was born.
