Kitten Rescued From Car Engine Becomes Halloween Anniversary Gift

A Sandy Springs, Georgia, high school teacher and her husband received an unexpected anniversary gift this month when a tiny black kitten, trapped in their vehicle's suspension, was rescued by local first responders and subsequently adopted into their family.

Nicole, the teacher, was driving with her husband Brandon to collect birthday cupcakes for her journalism students when another motorist began honking at them. Upon investigation, the couple discovered a small black kitten hanging underneath their car, trapped in the suspension.

The couple contacted emergency services to ensure the kitten could be safely removed without risking further travel. A team of three firefighters and two police officers from Sandy Springs Fire and Rescue worked together to free the stubborn stowaway, which weighed just over one pound (544 grams).

Following the rescue, the couple took the kitten directly to a veterinarian, who determined the animal was less than seven weeks old. Because the couple was married on Halloween, they interpreted the black cat's arrival as a sign of fate and chose to bring him home.

The kitten, now named Friday Shadow, has been welcomed into the family. Nicole noted that adopting a tiny black kitten in October feels especially fitting given their Halloween wedding anniversary, and the couple emphasized they could not simply send him on his way.

The couple expressed a desire to share their story to recognize the first responders who went above and beyond to save such a small life. "These wonderful first responders should get some recognition for going above and beyond to save such a tiny life," Nicole told Good News Network.

"Somehow, this tiny black kitten managed to show up just in time to become the most unexpected anniversary present we could have imagined," Nicole told Good News Network.

The rescue occurred earlier this month in Sandy Springs, Georgia, and highlights the community's appreciation for local emergency personnel who often handle unusual and delicate situations.
