Lance Bass, a member of the multiplatinum boy band *NSYNC, stated during an appearance on "The Zach Sang Show" earlier this week that the group's members earned a per diem of $35 per day at the peak of their fame, according to TMZ.com. The interview was published on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
Bass explained that despite sold-out tours and hit records, the members saw little of the revenue. He said their first check, received at the height of their popularity, amounted to only about $10,000. This payment came after the group had generated millions for their record company, particularly through merchandising, from which Bass indicated the members received nothing.
Bass also expressed frustration with the adults present during the group's early career, stating that they told the teenage members to simply do their jobs rather than advocate for better compensation. He noted that he has fared well in the years since, despite the stigma that many former boy band members face after their groups disband.
Regarding any regrets, Bass said he wishes *NSYNC had continued working together like the Backstreet Boys instead of breaking up. He concluded that the band's financial arrangements did not set its members up for long-term security, suggesting that fans should not be surprised to see him or his former bandmates continuing to work hard.
