Maverick Carter in Child Support Battle with Ex

Maverick Carter, the longtime business partner and childhood friend of LeBron James, is embroiled in a contentious child support dispute with his ex, Crystal Streets, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.com.

Carter has asked a judge to reduce the $25,000 per month he currently pays in support for their 18-year-old daughter. He stated that their daughter attends a full-time boarding school, which he pays for entirely. Carter, who is represented by attorney Laura Wasser, argued that Streets spends little meaningful custodial time with their daughter because the teenager lives at the boarding school. He is seeking to have the monthly child support reduced to $0, asserting that he is not attempting to avoid paying for his daughter and that he "pay[s] for everything [she] needs directly," as stated in the court documents obtained by TMZ.com.

Carter also noted that their daughter turned 18 in July, and he contends that the court no longer has jurisdiction over her custody as a result.

In response, Streets claimed that Carter is worth over $100 million and should continue paying support until their daughter graduates from school. She is seeking an increase to $35,000 per month, stating that they had agreed to that higher amount in 2024, but the agreement was never finalized because of the California wildfires. Streets also denied Carter's claim that she does not provide care for their daughter, insisting that she offers emotional support, manages the teenager's travel arrangements, and attends to her needs even while the daughter is away at boarding school.

The court documents also include alleged emails. In one dated December 28, 2025, Carter appears to have written to Streets, "Dealing with you is the only thing bad about my life, and I'll be soooo happy when it's over."

A hearing took place on September 15, during which Streets argued that child support should not be terminated. Carter disagreed. The court has yet to rule on the matter.
