EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Golfers, businesses and community members will come together next week at McCullough's Emerald Golf Links for an annual event aimed at helping veterans and their families.
The 2026 Tee Off for Veterans is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Egg Harbor Township golf course, with registration beginning at 7 a.m. and golf following at 8 a.m.
Tom Sullivan, general manager of McCullough's, described the event as one of the biggest days on the course's calendar.
"I would say this might be considered the premier event that we do host at McCullough's Emerald Links," Sullivan said during an appearance on Off The Press with Scott Cronick on News Talk 1400 & 92.3 WOND.
Tee Off for Veterans supports efforts benefiting veterans and their families, including scholarships for children and relatives of veterans and assistance for veterans homes, Sullivan said.
"They have donated lots of money towards veterans homes, particularly here in Atlantic County," Sullivan said. "And they just do a lot of good stuff with the money as far as helping veterans out and scholarships."
This year's event will take a slightly different approach to its traditional recognition.
Rather than selecting one individual veteran to honor, Sullivan said organizers decided to recognize all veterans.
The day begins with what Sullivan described as an elaborate and moving opening ceremony.
Local firefighters bring a large American flag that is displayed over the course entrance, and a ceremonial cannon has been part of the event's opening.
"It's really neat to see the community get involved in this event," Sullivan said. "We have the fire department come with their humongous flag that they put over top of our entranceway."
"It's just a fun day overall," he added.
One of the day's more personal traditions involves veterans from a local veterans home.
Sullivan said Legion Riders escort veterans to McCullough's, where they are treated to lunch and get an opportunity to spend time with golfers and other participants.
"You are able to spend some time with some local veterans and, you know, chat it up with them," Sullivan said.
McCullough's official registration information confirms the event is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 24. Golf registration is $140 per person.
Sullivan said the fee includes golf, prizes, breakfast and the post-tournament luncheon. People who don't golf can attend the luncheon for $40, according to Sullivan.
Businesses can also participate through sponsorships.
Sullivan said Hard Rock, Borgata and Tropicana have supported the event this year, with Fulton Bank joining as a new sponsor.
"We're looking for more sponsorship to help the Tee Off for Veterans and their goal to raise more money for the organization," Sullivan said. "But we also need some golfers as well."
Sponsorship opportunities range from $150 hole signs to larger packages, Sullivan said.
He also credited Egg Harbor Township Mayor Paul Hodson and Ellen Rush for their work helping organize the event.
"Everybody really pitches in," Sullivan said. "It's a really great day to be a part of it."
McCullough's Emerald Golf Links is located at 3016 Ocean Heights Ave. in Egg Harbor Township.
Registration for the Tee Off for Veterans outing is available through McCullough's website, with the current online registration page listing a cutoff of noon Sept. 21.
