ATLANTIC CITY — Atlantic County will conduct mosquito-control spraying in portions of Atlantic City and Absecon early Friday morning as part of its effort to control adult mosquitoes and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses.
The Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control has scheduled ground spraying for 4 to 6:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, weather permitting.
Crews will use Zenivex E4 RTU, the trade name for etofenprox, applied as an ultra-low-volume aerosol.
In Absecon, the treatment area is bounded by Pine Street, Shady Lane, North Shore Road, West Church Street and Pitney Road.
In Atlantic City, spraying is planned for an area bounded by North Harrisburg Avenue, Winchester Avenue, North Montgomery Avenue, South Montgomery Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, South Trenton Avenue and Ventnor Avenue.
According to the county, the Environmental Protection Agency does not require residents to leave the area or take special precautions during mosquito-control spraying.
Residents who prefer to minimize their exposure can remain indoors while spraying is underway. The county also recommends keeping windows closed and turning off window fans. Air conditioning can be turned off or set to recirculate indoor air.
Children's toys should be brought inside, along with pets and their food, water dishes and toys, according to the county.
The county conducts mosquito-control operations in an effort to reduce mosquito populations and the potential spread of mosquito-borne illnesses.
Residents can also help reduce mosquito populations around their homes by eliminating standing water, cleaning gutters, repairing holes in window and door screens and cutting high grass.
