A mass shooting in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon left two police officers wounded and multiple other victims injured, according to city officials.
The City of Minneapolis confirmed that officers responded to a shooting involving multiple victims. Sources informed Fox News that one officer sustained a gunshot wound to the shin while another officer was struck in the abdomen. Authorities have not disclosed the conditions of the injured officers.
The suspected gunman was reportedly down at the scene, though officials have not confirmed whether the individual was killed, wounded, or taken into custody.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz indicated his public safety team was responding to the incident and that state officials were providing assistance to local law enforcement. In a social media post, Walz expressed gratitude to first responders working to ensure public safety in the area, writing on social media that Minnesota is praying for first responders.
FBI Director Kash Patel acknowledged awareness of the shooting and stated the bureau stood ready to provide any necessary resources to local authorities.
Amy Klobuchar and Lisa Demuth also issued statements addressing the shooting. In a social media post, Klobuchar indicated she had spoken with the mayor about the incident and urged the public to avoid the downtown area while law enforcement secured the scene. She expressed prayers for victims and their families while thanking law enforcement personnel.
