Perez Hilton's Family Provides Health Update After Hospitalization

The family of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has released a hopeful update regarding his condition following a mental health crisis that led to his emergency hospitalization in Florida earlier this week.

In a statement posted to the blogger's website on Wednesday, August 5, Hilton's family expressed gratitude for the public support while revealing that the 48-year-old has been able to communicate during his hospital stay.

"Our family wants to once again thank everyone who has reached out with prayers, kind messages, and support for Perez. Your compassionate humanity during this profoundly heartbreaking time has meant more than words can express," the family stated. "This has been incredibly difficult and emotional for us, made even harder because very little information has been made available to our family. While we continue to wait for further updates, we remain hopeful."

The family characterized Hilton's ability to communicate as a positive development that has provided them with encouragement during an otherwise challenging period.

"[This] has given our family hope," the statement continued. "We respectfully ask for your continued prayers, understanding, and grace as Perez continues to recover. We will share additional updates as we receive confirmed information and are able to do so. For now, we're taking things one step at a time and keeping our focus where it belongs, on Perez and his recovery."

The hospitalization followed a disturbing incident on Tuesday, August 4, when Hilton broadcast a livestream on TikTok that showed him engaging in acts of self-harm. The platform subsequently banned his account for violating its terms of service.

Miami-Dade police responded to multiple calls about an individual livestreaming self-harm and were dispatched to Hilton's residence for what authorities suspected was a possible suicide attempt. Officers arrived to find family members at the scene and confirmed Hilton was alone inside the home.

"In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize deescalation by creating time, distance and opportunities for communication. At this time, deputies have tactfully disengaged while continuing to monitor the situation," a police spokesperson told Us Weekly.

Hilton's manager, Dante Rusciolelli, addressed the situation by emphasizing that the blogger's team remains concentrated on his health and recovery while respecting the privacy of both Hilton and his family during this difficult time, according to Us Weekly.

The incident has also affected Hilton's professional commitments. His podcast cohost, Chris Booker, announced Wednesday that their show, "The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker," will go on hiatus to allow Hilton time to focus on his recovery.

"It's all TBD at the moment as our collective focus is on his health. I certainly hope to continue [the podcast and Patreon] with my friend when the time is appropriate," the 55-year-old Booker wrote via Instagram. "I will give updates there when the time is right. We've done these shows for over a decade now and the support from our listeners has been resounding."

Booker added, "[Perez] is very loved. I can only hope he feels it. Heal up friend."

The family's initial statement following the hospitalization requested privacy and confirmed that Hilton was receiving medical care. They pledged to share updates when appropriate while asking for compassion and understanding from the public.
