ATLANTIC CITY — A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to four years in New Jersey State Prison for a 2024 Atlantic City shooting in which a bystander was struck by gunfire outside a bar and restaurant.
Carlos Medina-Morales, 25, was sentenced Sept. 8 after pleading guilty in June to second-degree aggravated assault, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
The four-year sentence is subject to New Jersey's No Early Release Act, requiring Medina-Morales to serve 85% of the term before becoming eligible for parole. He will also be subject to three years of parole supervision following his release.
The shooting occurred during the early morning hours of July 28, 2024, outside Cinco de Mayo, a bar and restaurant on Atlantic Avenue.
According to prosecutors, Medina-Morales had been denied entry to the establishment and argued with and threatened staff members before leaving the area.
Investigators determined that Medina-Morales then left in a vehicle and fired multiple rounds toward the establishment as the vehicle drove away, prosecutors said.
One of the bullets struck a bystander who was standing on the corner.
The release did not provide additional information about the victim's injuries.
The Atlantic City Police Department investigated the case.
