Steven McBee Sr., the 53-year-old patriarch featured on Bravo's The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys, has returned to his Gallatin, Missouri farm after completing his federal prison sentence early.
The reality television star marked his homecoming with an Instagram post on Saturday, September 12, sharing video footage of his return to the family property. "A little more appreciation for the simple things in life….Thank you Lord for all the blessings in my life," Steven Sr. wrote on the social media platform, according to Us Weekly.
His son Steven McBee Jr., 33, had announced the release one day earlier on Friday, September 11, posting video of his father meeting grandchildren. "Best 24 hours we've had in a long, long time. So many good memories to make and time to have together as a COMPLETE family!" Steven Jr. commented on his father's post, Us Weekly reported.
Another son, Cole McBee, 27, shared a photograph of Steven Sr. holding his infant granddaughter Tate, who was born in August. "So blessed to have the family back together," Cole wrote, according to Us Weekly. "Dad and Tate have officially got to meet now."
The Gallatin farmer's legal troubles stemmed from a multi-million dollar crop insurance fraud case. According to a November 2024 announcement from the Justice Department, Steven Sr. pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining federal crop insurance benefits. The scheme involved selling more than 1.2 million bushels of corn and nearly 416,000 bushels of soybeans to another party in 2018 without properly reporting the transactions.
Under his plea agreement, Steven Sr. was required to pay more than $4 million in restitution and forfeit $3,158,923 to the government. While federal guidelines allowed for a maximum sentence of 30 years without parole, a judge sentenced him to two years in October 2025.
Steven Sr. began serving his sentence at the Federal Prison Camp in Yankton, South Dakota, last December. However, he ultimately served less than a year in federal custody.
In July, Steven Jr. told Us Weekly that his father had qualified for an early release program. "Thankfully, we're down to less than two months now before he gets out … [He was] able to get into a program that allows him to cut down on the time served," Steven Jr. said, speaking to Us Weekly. "He'll be under home confinement for four to six months, but he gets out early."
Family members prepared for the homecoming by renovating Steven Sr.'s lodge and office as a surprise. Steven Jr. documented stocking the space with books, writing on Instagram that he considers reading "single-handedly one of the best things you can do to immediately improve your life and outlook/mindset," according to Us Weekly.
The legal proceedings unfolded across the second and third seasons of the Bravo reality series, which chronicled Steven Sr. transferring control of McBee Farm & Cattle Co to his sons. Before reporting to prison, he appeared on Todd Chrisley's podcast and characterized his sentence as a sabbatical, Us Weekly reported.
During that interview, Steven Sr. explained his decision to accept the plea agreement. He stated that he agreed to plead guilty to one count of making a fraudulent statement to protect his son Steven Jr. from further investigation. "[I decided] OK, get my son off of this. Get all my other people off of it. Get all the other companies [off]," Steven Sr. said on the podcast, according to Us Weekly. "At the end of the day, the buck stops with me. I take that accountability and responsibility."
He added that no one else would take ownership of the situation, calling the case "so crazy it was based on a clerical issue," Us Weekly reported.
