A report published Tuesday by The Atlantic indicates that Donald Trump Jr., a prominent public supporter of his father, has privately expressed opposition to the war in Iran on multiple occasions, including directly to President Donald Trump.
According to the report, two individuals who have spoken directly with Trump Jr. about the conflict state that he has been against the war from its outset and has communicated that position to his father. The report was detailed by TMZ.com on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.
A person close to the president's son told The Atlantic that Trump Jr. keeps his views on Iran private. "He would never publicly break with his dad on an issue like this," the person said, according to The Atlantic. The individual added, "But I can't imagine anyone who knows Don would be surprised by his personal views on the subject."
The Atlantic's sources also indicated that Trump Jr. did not want the United States to enter another war in the Middle East. The report noted his closeness with Charlie Kirk, who opposed the Iran war before his death.
A spokesman for Trump Jr. declined to comment to The Atlantic, and the White House did not answer the outlet's questions regarding the president's son. However, a White House official provided a statement to The Atlantic asserting that Iran had been "decimated" and that "one way or the other, the conflict in Iran will be over very soon."
The report highlights a potential divergence between the public posture of the Trump family and private deliberations over the conflict, a matter of interest to communities across the country as the administration charts its course in the Middle East.
