Russell Brand is turning to religion as his sexual assault trial proceeds in London, according to a video he posted Wednesday with his wife, Laura Brand.
In the video, the couple acknowledged they would be "extremely cautious" about their remarks regarding the ongoing legal proceedings. Laura Brand described feeling as though she puts on armor and prepares for battle each time they arrive at the courthouse, prompting Brand to retrieve his Bible.
Brand read aloud a passage about putting on "the full armor of God," explaining that the scripture has helped him remain calm in court. He stated that he reminds himself his life "doesn't belong to me," and he credited God for everything.
According to Brand, it is "impossible not to turn to god, truth and justice" in his circumstances, and he described those as the only forces capable of saving him.
Brand is facing three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault in the UK. Multiple women have testified during the trial, describing encounters with the actor that were characterized as disturbing. Brand has maintained that he has never had nonconsensual sex.
The trial continues in London, and Brand's public statements about his faith come as the legal proceedings remain ongoing.
