Sportscaster Erin Andrews has opened up about navigating fertility struggles in the public eye, particularly following a surrogate miscarriage that occurred in May 2025. In a recent interview, the 48-year-old reflected on the overwhelming response she received after choosing to share her deeply personal experience with listeners.
"I'm always so shocked how many people reach out about that and say, 'Thank you so much for being so honest,'" Andrews told The Athletic in an interview published on Wednesday, July 15.
The revelation came during an episode of her podcast "Calm Down" recorded on the same day Andrews learned her surrogate had miscarried with what would have been her second child. Rather than postpone the recording, she chose to address the loss directly with her audience, describing the news as "real s***ty" and detailing the ongoing challenges she and husband Jarret Stoll have faced in their efforts to expand their family.
Andrews and Stoll, a former NHL player, welcomed their son Mack via surrogate in 2023. However, their path to parenthood has been marked by multiple losses, including a previous surrogate miscarriage before Mack's birth.
"Those waiting rooms are packed. So many people are having problems with getting pregnant, having a baby, getting eggs, making embryos. I am right up there on that list. And I just decided, I'm not going to freaking candy-coat this anymore. I'm not going to be quiet about it," Andrews told The Athletic.
The decision to speak candidly about infertility and pregnancy loss stems from a desire to reduce the isolation many individuals and couples experience during such difficult times. Andrews emphasized that fertility challenges affect people regardless of their professional success or public profile.
"If you can tell people, show people they're not alone and be like, look, it doesn't matter who you are and what you do for a living, I'm struggling, too. And be there for them. I've enjoyed that. It's helped me kind of grieve and deal and all that. I've been grateful for the platform for it," she told The Athletic.
During the May 2025 podcast episode, Andrews referenced Taylor Swift's song "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart," noting her ability to continue working through emotional pain. She acknowledged that the pregnancy had been progressing well before complications arose, making the loss particularly difficult to process.
Andrews has faced significant health challenges beyond fertility issues. In 2016, she received a cervical cancer diagnosis that required two surgical procedures. Doctors declared her cancer-free in 2017, but the treatment impacted her reproductive options.
Earlier in 2026, the former Dancing With the Stars host revealed on her podcast that she had begun another round of in vitro fertilization, injecting fertility medications including Human Growth Hormone, follitropin alfa, and clomiphene. Despite medical statistics suggesting diminished egg viability at her age, Andrews expressed determination to continue trying.
Her physician has supported her efforts while maintaining realistic expectations about outcomes. Andrews acknowledged the medical realities but maintained an optimistic outlook about her body's capabilities.
The sportscaster's transparency about her fertility journey has resonated with countless individuals facing similar struggles. By sharing both the setbacks and the hope that drives her forward, Andrews has created a space for honest conversation about a topic many find difficult to discuss publicly.
