Carmen Efferson, the former fiancée of music legend Stevie Wonder, was observed gardening outside the Los Angeles residence at the center of an eviction lawsuit filed by the singer, according to photographs obtained by TMZ.com. The images, captured on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, show Efferson maintaining her routine at the property even as the legal dispute continues.
Court documents obtained by TMZ.com indicate that Wonder initiated eviction proceedings against Efferson, who has lived at the home without paying rent since 1988. The filing states that during her decades of occupancy, Efferson covered only the utility costs associated with the property.
According to the lawsuit, the situation deteriorated after Efferson allegedly declined to permit access to the premises for insurance-related purposes. Wonder's legal action seeks to remove her from the residence.
Sources close to Efferson previously told TMZ.com that she was caught off guard by the lawsuit, particularly in light of the couple's long romantic history. Those sources also indicated that Efferson has informed friends that Wonder assured her the house belonged to her, although no deed was ever transferred into her name.
The same sources told TMZ.com that Efferson has established deep roots at the residence over the years, including providing a home there for her late mother, who resided at the property until her passing.
A separate source familiar with Wonder's position told TMZ.com that the matter concerns safety and security concerns rather than any personal grievance. According to that account, the eviction effort is not motivated by animosity.
Wonder has stated that Efferson was given until August 27 to vacate the property, but she has remained in the home. The case continues to unfold in Los Angeles, where the property has served as Efferson's residence for nearly four decades.
