Two Egg Harbor Township Women Charged With DWI After Allegedly Switching Seats During Traffic Stop

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Two Egg Harbor Township women were arrested on drunken driving charges Friday night after police say they were both intoxicated and allegedly switched seats in an attempt to avoid responsibility after one of them was reported driving the wrong way on the Black Horse Pike.

The incident began at approximately 9:48 p.m. Friday, when the Egg Harbor Township Police Department received a report of a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Black Horse Pike near English Creek Avenue.

According to police, Officer Randy Collins located the suspect vehicle as it pulled into the parking lot of Tomar's Liquor Store. Before the officer made contact, police said he observed the vehicle's two front-seat occupants switch places, with the driver moving into the passenger seat and the passenger climbing behind the wheel.

An investigation determined that both women had allegedly operated the vehicle at different times and were both intoxicated, police said.

The women were identified as Destiny Munyon, 20, of Egg Harbor Township, and Shelby Barnes, 20, of Egg Harbor Township.

Munyon was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath testing, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and several additional traffic offenses.

Barnes was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and careless driving.

Both women were released to sober adults in accordance with John's Law, which requires individuals charged with DWI to be released only to a responsible adult who agrees to take custody of the impaired driver.

The incident remains under investigation by the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.
