Warner Family Reaches Settlement Over Late Actor's Estate

The mother of late actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner has announced a settlement agreement in the ongoing dispute over her son's estate, bringing potential resolution to a family conflict that has played out publicly since the beloved television star's death last year.

Pamela Warner disclosed Thursday, August 13, that she has reached terms with the representatives of her granddaughter, though the agreement remains subject to court approval. The settlement designates the majority of the Warner Family Trust and Estate to Malcolm-Jamal Warner's daughter, according to a statement Pamela Warner provided to TMZ.

"The agreement provides for Malcolm's daughter to receive the majority remainder of the Trust and Estate," Pamela Warner told TMZ. She expressed optimism that the court will approve the terms and that all involved parties will support the resolution.

In her statement, Pamela Warner pushed back against allegations that she had blocked financial support from reaching her granddaughter. She characterized such claims as untrue and emphasized that her son had been thoughtful and deliberate in structuring his estate plan to provide for all his loved ones.

The settlement comes more than a year after Malcolm-Jamal Warner died in July 2025 at age 54. The actor, best known for his role on The Cosby Show, drowned after being caught in a riptide while vacationing with his family in Costa Rica.

Last month, the actor's widow, Tenisha Warner, filed a lawsuit against Pamela Warner, who serves as successor trustee of the Warner Family Trust. Court documents indicate that Tenisha Warner is seeking $1.2 million, an amount she contends matches what her late husband promised her under the terms of their premarital agreement.

According to TMZ, Tenisha Warner has not publicly commented on the newly announced settlement and does not appear to have participated in the negotiations that produced it.

Earlier this week, a friend of Tenisha Warner launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist her during the legal proceedings. The fundraising page describes the widow's efforts to maintain stability for her nine-year-old daughter while grieving and honoring the couple's commitment to homeschool their child.

The friend who created the fundraiser stated that Malcolm-Jamal Warner had intended to revise his estate plan to provide for his wife and daughter but passed away before executing the updated documents. The campaign appeals for financial support to help ensure Tenisha Warner and her daughter do not lose what the actor intended to provide for them.

The settlement now awaits formal court approval before taking effect. The timeline for judicial review of the agreement has not been disclosed.
