Eleven people were shot Saturday night in Tallahassee, Florida, in the aftermath of a college football game at Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium, and authorities have not announced any arrests, according to Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell.
Revell, speaking at a press conference following the violence, said six of the victims were juveniles, including an 11-year-old. The remaining five victims were adults. A twelfth person, described by the chief as a grandmother, was hurt while trying to get away from the disorder but was not struck by gunfire.
One victim was listed in critical condition and three others were in serious condition, Revell said. The rest were reported to be stable.
The gunfire broke out after the Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions defeated the Florida A&M Rattlers 31-28 at the Rattlers' home stadium. Revell confirmed that at least one of those wounded is a Florida A&M student.
According to the chief, an altercation involving two or three people appears to have set off the shooting in the area around the stadium. Investigators have not determined whether the football game itself played any role in the violence.
Detectives assigned to the Tallahassee Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit are leading the investigation and are working to identify and locate whoever is responsible. The case remained open as of Sunday, with the chief's account leaving the number of suspects unresolved.
The shooting marks a violent end to a game day that drew fans to the campus stadium, and it raises immediate questions for a community that includes a large student population. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Tallahassee Police Department.
