MAYS LANDING — An Atlantic City man faces a decade in state prison after admitting to drug-distribution and firearms offenses stemming from a police response to a reported mental health crisis last year.
Trevon Drinks, 32, pleaded guilty Monday before Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor to second-degree possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, second-degree possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and second-degree certain persons not to possess weapons, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Under the plea agreement, Drinks is expected to receive 10 years in New Jersey State Prison with five years of parole ineligibility.
The charges stem from a June 20, 2025, incident at a residence on North North Carolina Avenue in Atlantic City.
According to prosecutors, Atlantic City police were called to the residence for a report of a man experiencing a mental health crisis who had threatened to shoot his mother. Police identified the man as Drinks and also learned that he allegedly threatened to harm his sister.
His sister told authorities she had previously seen Drinks with a gun, prosecutors said.
Police subsequently obtained an emergency search warrant for the residence.
During the search, authorities said they recovered more than 21 grams of methamphetamine, more than 28 grams of cocaine and more than 29 grams of fentanyl.
Police also recovered a loaded 9 mm Sig Sauer P320 handgun containing 10 rounds of ammunition and a high-capacity magazine, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors said Drinks had previous convictions for possession of controlled dangerous substances with intent to distribute, making him legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Drinks remains held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility while awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for Oct. 27.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Unit is prosecuting the case.
Charges and accusations referenced in connection with conduct not covered by the guilty plea are allegations. A defendant is presumed innocent of any charge unless and until proven guilty.
