MAYS LANDING, NJ – On Tuesday, July 21, 2026, James Angelozzi, 42, from Atlantic City, NJ,
was sentenced to five and a half years in New Jersey State Prison on one count of second-degree
possession of controlled dangerous substances with intent to distribute in front of the Honorable
Christine Smith, J.S.C.
On September 8, 2023, Atlantic City police officers observed Angelozzi speeding eastbound on
the AC Expressway. As police followed Angelozzi, he continued to swerve and switch lanes
without using his blinker. As the police officer turned on his emergency lights, he observed
Angelozzi throw a large duffle bag into the backseat. During the traffic stop, Angelozzi completed
and signed a consent-to-search form for his vehicle. Officers found 110 wax folds containing
heroin, fentanyl, xylazine, and 4-ANPP weighing 35 grams with packaging and three bags of
cocaine weighing 133 grams with packaging. Once in holding, Angelozzi signed a consent to
search his apartment, which he voluntarily stated had drugs in it. Officers found 74 more wax
folds containing the same combination of CDS as found in the vehicle (23 grams) and an
additional bag of cocaine (seven grams).
Assistant Prosecutor Frank Edward Vizzi represented the State in this matter
