An attorney representing a friend of Nolan Wells has mounted a vigorous defense of his client, challenging the validity of enhanced audio recordings connected to the July 4 boating incident that resulted in Wells' death.
Russell Latino, who represents Bart Edmiston Jr., appeared on NewsNation with Chris Cuomo to dispute what he characterized as manipulated evidence. Latino asserted there is no legitimacy to the enhanced sea tow dispatch recording that appeared to identify his client, describing it as doctored audio accompanied by a transcript designed to influence listeners.
According to Latino, the transcript serves to persuade people they are hearing specific words in otherwise unclear audio. He dismissed the recording as fundamentally unreliable evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The attorney emphasized that Edmiston has cooperated fully with investigators since the incident began and maintained that no evidence connects his client to Wells' death. Edmiston was among the group of friends who accompanied Wells to Horn Island on July 4. Latino stated that his client was aboard the vessel with the group when they contacted Sea-Tow and that Edmiston's only involvement was assisting with draining water as the boat began taking on water.
Latino also addressed the severe online harassment targeting the Edmiston family, which has escalated from social media speculation to death threats. The family is now weighing legal action against those responsible. Latino criticized online users who, in his words, think it is entertaining to play detective with other people's lives.
The harassment campaign has grown serious enough to prompt law enforcement intervention. Federal authorities announced Wednesday the arrest of a California man accused of sending death threats to the Mississippi judge handling the case. The suspect allegedly warned of a bomb package and threatened violence and bloodshed.
Earlier this week, Latino sent a cease and desist letter to OnlyFans model Kymbra Li, alleging she has been doxxing Edmiston and making false public statements about him online.
Edmiston retained legal representation recently after speculation intensified following circulation of a photograph showing him with a woman whom social media users claimed had romantic connections to both Edmiston and Wells. The viral image fueled online theories about the circumstances surrounding Wells' death.
The case continues to generate intense public interest and scrutiny as investigators work to determine what happened during the July 4 boating trip that ended in tragedy.
