According to the filing, Pitt's legal team issued a subpoena in December 2025 to a bank as part of a bankruptcy proceeding that Stoli filed in Texas. The subpoena requested the bank turn over emails exchanged with Stoli and included questions about Vladimir Putin, Russia, and any Russian assets held by the vodka company.
The controversy stems from the couple's divorce and the subsequent sale of Jolie's stake in the winery. Pitt and Jolie purchased the winery during their marriage, and when they divorced, she sold her ownership interest to Stoli.
