Ocean Cityy is getting a new banking option as Chase Bank takes over a high-profile downtown location that's been sitting empty for nearly two years.
The building at the corner of Ninth Street and West Avenue — one of the first landmarks visitors see when entering Ocean City — has been purchased by Chase Bank, according to OCNJ Daily. The property previously housed a Republic Bank branch that shut its doors permanently on September 16, 2024.
Republic Bank's closure came after Fulton Bank acquired the institution's assets and decided the Ocean City location overlapped with its existing branch network. The decision left the prominent downtown corner without banking services for the past two years.
Chase Bank has not yet announced its renovation plans or when the branch will open to serve customers. The acquisition brings a national banking presence to a corner that serves as a gateway to our downtown business district.
The return of banking services to this location will fill a gap left by Republic Bank's departure and provide residents and visitors with another financial services option in the heart of Ocean City.
