Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has entered the national conversation surrounding the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, publicly defending the lone juror whose dissent prevented a unanimous not guilty verdict and sparked widespread controversy.
DeSantis posted on X Friday, September 11, 2026, accusing news organizations of targeting the juror following revelations about his personal history. His defense comes after NBC10 published a report detailing the juror's past legal troubles, including allegations of domestic violence.
"A man objected to allowing a woman to kill her three young kids and get away with it, so NBC is trying to smear that juror, whose identity should be protected," DeSantis wrote on the social media platform, according to TMZ.com. "Another low for legacy media."
The governor extended an unusual offer to the juror, stating he would be welcome in Florida and suggesting he could receive asylum if he believes he is being harassed over his jury service.
The juror at the center of the dispute was previously charged with assault after allegedly grabbing his then-wife by the throat and throwing her into a dresser, NBC10 reported. That charge was subsequently dismissed, and the couple later divorced, according to the outlet's investigation.
