Family of Christian Obumseli Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit

The family of Christian Obumseli has resolved their wrongful death lawsuit against the Miami apartment building where he was killed, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.

Obumseli's relatives filed the civil action against One Paraiso condo following his fatal stabbing by Courtney Clenney, who was living with him at the property when the incident occurred. The parties reached a settlement before the case proceeded to trial.

Under the terms of the agreement, One Paraiso and FirstService Residential will cover all outstanding hospital and medical bills associated with Obumseli's death, as well as any related liens. In exchange, the family has dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice, meaning the claims cannot be refiled.

Clenney was originally named as a defendant in the wrongful death suit but was removed from the case in March, according to court records.

The settlement comes as Clenney faces criminal charges in connection with Obumseli's death. She was charged with murder and had been facing the possibility of life in prison. However, TMZ reports that Clenney is accepting a plea deal in the criminal case, though specific details of that agreement have not been disclosed.

Throughout the criminal proceedings, Clenney's legal team has maintained that she acted in self-defense when she stabbed Obumseli. The resolution of the civil lawsuit represents a separate legal matter from the ongoing criminal case.

The settlement brings closure to one aspect of the legal proceedings stemming from the fatal incident at the luxury Miami condominium complex.
