FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A shooting at a seasonal Halloween retail store inside a Fairfield shopping center left one person dead and six others injured Friday night, according to police, with three of the wounded reported in critical condition.
The attack occurred at the Spirit Halloween Store located within the Solano Town Center in Fairfield, California, authorities said. At least one gunman carried out the shooting, police stated.
The suspect or suspects fled the scene and had not been apprehended as of Saturday morning, according to police. Investigators have not released a motive, and it remained unclear whether the store itself was specifically targeted.
A witness described the chaotic moments inside the store to KCRA 3 News, telling the station that his wife was present when gunfire erupted. The witness recounted hearing "5, 6, 7 shots when people were running," he told KCRA 3 News.
The shooting marks a violent disruption at a business that, like other Spirit Halloween locations nationwide, operates on a temporary seasonal basis and draws heavy foot traffic in the days surrounding Halloween. The Solano Town Center is a regional shopping destination in Solano County, and the incident raises immediate questions about security at pop-up retail sites during peak holiday periods.
Fairfield police have not identified any suspects or persons of interest publicly, and no additional details about the victims have been released. The investigation remains active, and authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
The shooting was first reported by TMZ.com on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 5:02 a.m. PDT.
